Rap and Spoken Word Masterclass and Competition

 In 2023, we are introducting a new competition to reflect a relatively recent new art form - Rap and Spoken Word. This will be divided into two parts:

 

• A Masterclass, where interested entrants can learn the art form from a professional.
• A competitive class, which will allow entrants to showcase their own talents for composition and performance of Rap / Spoken Word.

To encourage participation as widely as possible, we are offering this class at a low entry fee. In 2023, we expect these events to take place between Sunday 25^th February and Sunday 12^th March.

Professional Advice and Encouragement

The Masterclass will be run by Myles Stephenson, who is one-third of the X-Factor 2017 winning band Rak-Su. Myles is born and bred in Watford. His passion for music started at a very young age and it was in his teens when he started recording music in a studio. Fast forward 17 years, he has toured the UK in stadiums and arenas with multiple songs reaching the top 40 charts. And all with his childhood best friends from Watford!

Myles says:

I am extremely thrilled to be involved in the Watford Festival of Music, Speech and Drama 2023. I have lived in Watford my whole life so it is a really exciting thing for me to be a part of. I not only want see the extreme talent that the youth of Watford have but I also want to be a part of it and hopefully the journey of Rak-su will inspire the creative minds in our community.
